“Don’t mess with Texas” can be seen on bumper stickers and tee shirts throughout the State and the nation. Texas loves to cultivate its image of a rough and tumble of independent mavericks. Someone should tell officers of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) not to take the slogan literally. During an incident at a gay club in Fort Worth a TABC officer assaulted a patron who had allegedly groped him. Now the City has decided to prosecute the patron.Never mind that the officer involved violated TABC protocols or that TABC’s own internal investigation revealed serious misconduct prosecutors still believe going forward with its prosecution of the patrons is a wise move. This incident “elevates” the disgusting tactic of blaming the victim to an all time low. Apparently the interests of justice are best served when coupled with a Texas sized helping of homophobia and out right hatred!
I’d love to be the defense attorney trying this case, or better yet, the civil attorney handling their civil damages case that will probably follow the patrons jury trial. The city of Fort Worth seems intent on running headlong into a Texas sized helping of “crow” by proceeding with rediculas legal charade.
