Sometime during the last couple of weeks I have gotten into the habit of having a splash (or two) of dark rum on the rocks when Ma’am and I enjoy cigars on our deck.
Since a bottle of Appleton XV was on hand that was my drink of choice. I’d been thinking for a time that once the Appleton was gone, I’d get another brand, and was especially interested in what I had termed a “sippin’ rum”; something dark, smooth and well aged.
Even though we still had some Appleton left Ma’am suggested that we find a bottle of rum. Venturing to an excellent local establishment Ma’am and perused the selection. After looking at all the different brands and receiving some advice from a helpful employee we decided on Pyrat XO Reserve; which is packaged in a bottle reminiscent of something right out of Treasure Island.
Arriving home, Ma’am suggested a side by side comparison of the Appleton, Pussers and the Pyrat. Hands down the Pyrat was the clear winner, even eliciting a nod of approval from Ma’am who normally dislikes brown liquor.
The Pyrat was a dark honey color that seemed to glow when held up to the light. It had a very pleasant tangy sweet aroma with a hint of spice. The taste has hints of orange and even served straight up is very drinkable with a smooth taste but without the burn. We were both very pleased with our purchase enjoying more that evening with cigars.
