Proposition 8 is Unconstitutional

The ruling handed down today in Perry vs. Schwarzenegger will likely become a seminal case for future case involving same sex marriage. No same-sex engagement announcements in South Bend

Defending Same Sex Marriage?

For some unfathomable reason opponents of same sex marriage always feel the need to link defending marriage with opposition towards “gay” or same sex marriage. Which frankly I don’t understand. Simply because same sex marriages do not conform to our traditional image of a marriage, consisting of one man and one woman; does not mean that accepting either the concept of same sex marriages or to take the radical stance of actually endorsing same sex marriage does not weaken traditional marriage. 
It seems to me that any type of marriage, whether traditional or same sex, strengthens the institution of marriage generally. Encouraging marriage of any kind should be seen as positive and good for society in general. As it allows for more stability in relationships which tends to lead to happier more well adjusted members of society. 
However opponents of same sex marriage cite all manner of dire consequences if same sex marriage becomes legal. Including the destruction of the traditional family structure,  the inclusion into school curriculum’s that same sex marriage is a viable option as well as teaching homosexuality is an acceptable life choice and that changing the definition of marriage si simply catering to “special interests”.
Same sex marriage is on the ballot this November in the state of Maine, were supporters of traditional marriage have “come out swinging” with a series of frankly misleading ads concerning same sex marriage. Which is nothing new in the country, as “smear” type campaigning for a political cause has become common place. What is interesting is that some people have noticed that the ads against same sex marriage have misleading facts as well as outright lies . Hopefully common sense will prevail in Maine this November and the hard fought victory won in support of same sex marriages will not be defeated.
 
As an aside while writing this post, I found an interesting article written by a heterosexual women stating her personal opinion regarding whether of not opposing same sex marriages actually defended traditional marriage.
